About us

The Legal Complaints Service (LCS) is an independent complaints handling body. We are part of the Law Society, but operate independently.

The Law Society has

  • delegated its complaints handling functions to us
  • charged us to exercise those functions independently and in the public interest

We were previously known as the Consumer Complaints Service (CCS) and, before that, as the Office for the Supervision of Solicitors (OSS).

Our services are confidential and free to use. We look at each case impartially and try to find a solution that is acceptable for everyone concerned.

We work closely with our stakeholders, customers, the legal profession and Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) to make sure we continue to develop and improve our services.
